Last week Viva was encouraging readers to be on the lookout for ingredients to add to their pantry and after a busy weekend at the Food Show here's what we have added to ours:
Just Blue - a new 100 per cent blueberry juice produced by Waikato-based growers of organic blueberries, Monvale Blueberries. Their claim of "A bottle a day keeps the free radicals at bay" works for us! One bottle contains three times your recommended daily intake of antioxidants and is full of goodness and it tastes great. Add a splash to vinaigrettes for a wonderful new zingy flavour or make a great winter's drink by mixing it with hot water and lemon.
We admit that it was the branding that first caught our attention with Hot Samoan Boys Chilli Sauce but it was the flavour and heat in this 100 per cent Samoan village-grown birdseye chilli sauce that had us wanting more.
And one for the fridge and freezer - a whole organic lamb from the wonderful Marama Organic Farm in South Otago. For $310 (including freight and GST) this is delivered to your home or workplace, already processed into legs, back straps, shanks, racks, butterfly steaks, chops and other cuts. We sampled some on the day and it was deliciously sweet.
We're also fans of Blue Coconut coconut cooking oil after discovering it has a high smoke point (making it ideal for use in stir-frying), zero cholesterol and its neutral flavour makes it an ideal substitute in baking. It doubles as a beauty product keeping you moisturised after a shower - perfect.
