By DIANA HENDRY
Of course nobody called it stealing because Tess was only four. Four and strong enough to yank a plug off its chain. And she looked very sweet, my sister, with her hair in little ginger bunches and her nose all freckles. People thought it rather funny when she went off with their plug. At least they said they did. I don't suppose it really is funny if you're just about to have a bath and suddenly discover you don't have a plug.
Mum kept saying Tess was too little to know any better. But there was a really good reason why Tess liked Plugs. She liked the way the water went whirling down the plug hole when you pulled the plug out. She could play with a plug for hours, shouting, "Whirly, Whirly, Whirly! Twirly, Twirly, Twirly!"
