When it comes to romantic gestures and proving to your significant other you love them, celebrities do things a little differently.

And, we aren't talking about buying a dozen roses instead of just the one or splurging on a family size box of Favourites rather than the kid size box.

We're talking about gestures that cost hundreds of thousands of dollars or have significantly impacted on their careers. These are some of the craziest.

Prince Harry visiting Megan Markle

Just this week, the lovestruck Royal took a massive detour from the Caribbean to see his American girlfriend Meghan Markle.

While some mightn't see this as too romantic, his 3,000 kilometre detour to see Markle meant he had to delay an official engagement in London as well as coming under fire for diverting a plane that the British people are taxed for.

Nicole Kidman turning down roles for Tom Cruise

Variety's Actors on Actors series has revealed plenty of shocking tales but it was Nicole Kidman's most recent interview that floored us.

While chatting with To Die For co-star Casey Affleck, Kidman admitted she lost the desire to act after marrying her first husband Tom Cruise.

"I'd came to the states and I'd done stuff and I fell in love and I got married and that was really ... I'm always driven by love so I can be taken way off my course of, 'Hey, I want to be an actor'. I go, 'Oh, now I'm in love, yeah! I'm gonna go do this because this is way more fun'," she told Affleck.

Kidman had moved away from acting so much while with Cruise she revealed her role in To Die For required some serious begging.

"No one thought I could do it and I think the studio didn't want me and it sort of went through another bunch of actors."

Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon shut down Disneyland

While they aren't together anymore, when Cannon and Carey were married, their romancing was of epic proportions.

Back in 2013, the couple decided to celebrate their fifth wedding anniversary in traditional Carey style and shut down the whole of Disneyland for a night.

Justin Bieber's backstage Bible classes

12 Dec 08:30 PM

Dressed in matching Prince and Princess costumes, Carey arrived by way of horse-drawn crystal carriage.

The ceremony finished with a fireworks display and guests were treated to a reception at Fantasyland complete with 15,000 imported flowers and 10,000 crystals.

Cannon and Carey renewed their vows every year in places like Paris and the Maldives until their divorce in 2016.

They co-parent five-year old twins Moroccan and Monroe.

Justin Bieber renting out the entire Staples Centre

Bieber has always been known as a hopeless romantic - ever since he performed Baby as a fresh-faced 15 year old.

When you're one of the richest pop stars in the world, being a hopeless romantic is a little easier.

Proof of this was when the Sorry singer rented out the entire Staples Centre for his now ex-girlfriend Selena Gomez.

Keeping in mind the arena has a capacity of 21,000, it's safe to say the young couple would've had all the space in the world.

17-year old Bieber organised the super-size date so he and Gomez could watch Titanic.

Kanye West proposing at at & T Park

West had his work cut out for him when he decided to propose to the world's biggest reality star Kim Kardashian back in 2013.

The rapper enlisted the help of some pyrotechnics and a 50-piece symphony orchestra to propose to the Kardashian but it was the location that made the biggest impression.

Kanye proposed on the baseball pitch of San Francisco's AT & T Park and used the huge marquee to flash "Please Marry Meeee."

After being married for a few years, the couple are reportedly on the rocks after Kayne's mental break down in November. Kim Kardashian is allegedly wanting a divorce from Kayne and is trying to build a case for full custody of the kids, North and Saint.

Everybody gets a car

One of the more popular celebrity romance gestures is buying their better half a car.

When Lamar Odom won the NBA championship in 2010 with his team the Los Angeles Lakers, his wife Khloe Kardashian bought him a $400,000 Rolls Royce.

For Beyonce's 25th birthday, Jay Z also bought the superstar a Rolls Royce, reportedly worth millions.

However, the couple that takes the cake on car buying is Kylie Jenner and Tyga.

For Jenner's 18th and 19th birthdays the rapper bought the reality star cars.

The first was a Ferrari 458 Spider worth close to $300,000, the second a Mercedes-Benz Maybach.

After Tyga's Ferrari was repossessed to pay for debts, Jenner rapidly rectified the situation, purchasing a brand new Bentley Bentayga for her boyfriend the very next day.

Joe Dimaggio delivered roses to Monroe's grave until his death

One of Hollywood's original tabloid relationships, their nine month marriage was one filled with infidelity and abuse rumours.

Despite all that, there's no denying baseball legend Joe DiMaggio was completely in love with Marilyn Monroe until her death in 1962.

While the rumours and reasons change on why he did it, DiMaggio's weekly delivery of roses to Monroe's grave is about as romantic as it gets. The flowers stopped after the baseballer passed away in 1999.

Johnny Depp and his tattoos

While it doesn't get much more romantic than dedicating a tattoo to your significant other, plenty of celebs have learnt the hard way when the relationship ends - one of which is Johnny Depp.

While dating Winona Ryder in the early 1990s, the Willy Wonka star got 'Winona Forever' tattooed on his arm. After the couple broke up he changed it to 'Wino Forever.'

Depp struggled to learn his lesson after the Winona debacle when he tattooed SLIM across his four knuckles-reportedly a nickname for his ex-wife Amber Heard.

The actress filed for divorce from the Pirates of the Caribbean star back in May before she was granted a temporary restraining order for domestic violence allegations.

Depp appears to have now changed the tattoo to SCUM.
