Where was floor thirteen?
There should have been fifteen floors in Todd's apartment building. The numbers went from one to twelve, but then something strange happened. After floor twelve came floor fourteen. Floor thirteen simply wasn't there. Todd had ridden the slow old lift, counting all the way. He started on the ground floor, clankety-clank, then one, clankety-clank, then came two, clankety-clank, three, clankety-clank. The lift had dark blue carpet on the floor that went halfway up the walls, four, clankety-clank. On the top half of the back wall was a mirror, five, clankety-clank. Above the doors there was a screen, six, clankety-clank. Numbers showed on the screen, seven, clankety-clank, eight, clankety-clank.
