Teachers reveal bizarre things parents say

Forget about kids saying the darnedest things, it seems some parents have a tendency to spout amusing, shocking comments too.

In response to a Reddit user's question asking for the most outrageous things parents have ever said to teachers, over 6,000 bizarre comments have been shared.

From excuses for their child's absences and bad behaviour to blaming a teacher for their child's bug bites, the thread of parent teacher interactions is as amusing as it is at times concerning.

One teacher quoted a parent who said: "She doesn't have to be smart, she has to be pretty. She will find a rich man, marry him and never use chemistry again."

Another told of a parent who explained their child was stealing as a result of their diabetes, while another expressed concern over the teacher's choice of music in class.

"A mom made us stop playing Disney music because 'it was bad for her daughter's self esteem' so we did".

When it came to explaining a boy's poor attendance record, one parent blamed the family pet.

"A parent last year apologised for her son's attendance (45 per cent) because she's had him in counselling for the past 6 months to help him cope with the loss of their hamster [sic]," the teacher wrote, "For a hamster."

Other interactions simply left teachers incredulous.

"I had a parent chew me out for letting her daughter get bug bites. At the daycare... On the playground... That happened to also have a barnyard and farm...[sic]".
