LONDON - British police arrested supermodel Naomi Campbell in London on Wednesday on suspicion of assault, police and media reports said.
Officers arrested a 36-year-old woman at an address in the Westminster area of the capital and held her for questioning, a Metropolitan Police spokesman said.
He declined to give her name because no charges had been filed, but the comments were made in response to a report on Sky News that the 36-year-old Campbell had been arrested.
The arrest came after a woman went to the police claiming she had been attacked at the residence, the spokesman said.
"Officers attended the address. A women aged 36 was arrested at approximately 1:20 p.m. (1.20am NZT) for an alleged assault and taken to a central London police station," he said.
Campbell's spokesman was not immediately available for comment. The Sun newspaper, however, quoted him as saying she had done nothing wrong.
"We believe there has been a misunderstanding. Once police have investigated we are sure this will be resolved," the spokesman told the newspaper.
London-born Campbell is no stranger to controversy. She has blamed her hot temper on lingering resentment toward her father for abandoning her as a child.
