THE GREAT NZ SPELLING BEE
It takes guts to get up in front of the nation and bare your spelling prowess, or lack thereof. At least the contestants, drawn from the fields of music, sport, politics, the media, television and entertainment, can console themselves with the fact they are doing it for a good cause.
The winner of tonight's final will have $50,000 to present to their chosen charity. The seven heat winners, who took home $10,000 for their charities, will once again face host Mark Leishman in a test of nerves.
The contestants and their charities are Raybon Kan (Plunket), Jim Mora (ChildFund NZ), Wendyl Nissen (Cot Death Association), Peter Elliott (Higher Ground Trust), Helen Medlyn (Aids Foundation), Rob Hamill (Hospice Waikato) and last week's politicians heat winner Peter Dunne (Wellington City Mission). May the best speller win.
