NO OPPORTUNITY WASTED
If Phil Keoghan has a comfort zone, it's not a place he visits often. The host of hit reality series The Amazing Race has made a living out of pushing himself - and others - to the limit, and he's offering Kiwis a chance to overcome their fears or fulfil a dream.
This reality show is based around Keoghan's No Opportunity Wasted (N.O.W.) philosophy (also featured in a self-help book he penned). In short, he believes people should live every day as if it is their last and pursue their dreams no matter what.
Keoghan had a successful career in television here before he decided he wanted to break into television in the United States. So in his 20s he left for Los Angeles and started knocking on doors until someone gave him a break. That determination has meant he has picked up a fistful of Emmys for The Amazing Race, which is coming into its 11th season.
He has also co-created and co-produced a number of other TV shows, including Keoghan's Heroes, which profiles thrill-seekers around the world, Phil Keoghan's Adventure Crazy for the Discovery Channel and The Human Edge, a technology series for the National Geographic channel.
In this show he tries to impart some of that go-getting attitude as each week a different group of challengers is given 72 hours to make the most of a life-changing opportunity. Tonight, three people with a shark phobia must overcome their fears when they take on a dive challenge in Fiji.

The last one before they sank the franchise. Pretty dire by this stage - sharks don't have vocal chords but this one manages a throaty roar. Only worth watching if you want to throw fish fingers at the screen. (1987)
