Healthy eating resolutions don't always mix with summer entertaining. A new book offers help, giving classic dishes a healthy makeover.
If the words "eat", "more" and "healthily" have made an appearance in your New Year's resolutions this year, or perhaps the past several years, only for your willpower to collapse with your first attempts at summer socialising. Aussie foodie Jane Hennedy may be able to help.
Possibly best known here as an actress from Aussie film an TV classics such as Frontline and The Dish, Kennedy has reinvented herself across the Tassie as something of a healthy eating guru.
It began with her own desire to lose weight combined with a refusal to give up the tastes and comforts of her favourite foods. The result was her first cookbook: Fabulous Food Minus the Boombah (boombah being "food that makes your arse huge").
Kennedy now has a second book out, along a similar theme, called OMG! I Can Eat That? which is chock-full of her own recipe adaptations in which perpetual favourites like curries, Peking duck, osso bucco and tiramisu are given a healthy makeover.
The trick according to Kennedy is a pantry and fridge well stocked with fresh produce and tasty condiments, a little portion control and a willingness to try new tastes.
Kick-start your new year with this summery three-course meal by Jane Kennedy:
* Zucchini "chips" with aioli
* Prawn and asparagus red curry
* My cream of tiramisu
