English land artist Simon Beck spent hours creating a sandy masterpiece on Auckland's west coast yesterday.
Beck, who is working with New Zealand outdoor apparel company Icebreaker, spent five-and-a-half hours raking the sand at Maori Bay, just north of Muriwai.
The 55-year-old was working towards a 12-pointed star design, but managed only half of it because of the incoming tide.
Before the water reached the high-tide mark - which was at the centre of his design - Beck had covered an area 200m long and 70m wide.
The artist is working with Icebreaker to raise money for the not-for-profit group Protect Our Winters, which is dedicated to raising awareness around the impact of climate change.
