Celebrity taco chefs Otis and Sarah Frizzell spent yesterday serving at their usual Ponsonby spot instead of at a food festival their taco truck was used to advertise.
The couple were a hit at last year's Street Eats Festival but were off the invitation list this time, despite their image being used to promote the event.
Otis Frizzell last week asked organisers Heart of the City to remove pictures of the truck and Sarah. He also wanted customers to be aware The Lucky Taco was not part of the event.
"I don't think it was malicious, it was an oversight on their part but if 50 of our customers go to Street Eats to see us, then they are not coming here to Ponsonby Rd to see us," Frizzell told the Herald on Sunday. "That is a big hit for a small business."
Frizzell also criticised the inclusion of fancy inner-city restaurants such as Bellota, Mexico, Monsoon Poon and The Grill by Sean Connolly over traditional street food vendors.
