Raising your own children is challenging at times, so becoming a step-parent to a new partner's brood is not to be taken lightly.
In a series of confessions on secret sharing app Whisper step-mothers and fathers have revealed what they really think of their partner's brood.
Making use of the app's anonymity settings, these often reluctant guardians have spared detail when it comes to their occasionally shocking admissions.
The vast majority of the confessions came from adults who admitted to struggling with their role as a step-parent - including a step-father who revealed that he feels like a doormat who is just used for his money.
He wasn't alone, with many others agreeing they felt taken for granted by step-children.
