KEY POINTS:
Stella McCartney is teaming up with iconic New Zealand lingerie company Bendon to create a designer range of underwear.
The deal, announced this morning, marks the beginning of a "long-term partnership" which will see the first collection of Stella McCartney lingerie released early next year.
In a statement released today, McCartney said she had always wanted to design knickers.
"This is a natural progression for me. Lingerie is an obsession of mine, I have been inspired by it for many, many years and ever since my degree collection at St Martins, I have always used it in my work."
The collection promises to be sexy and confident with an emphasis on modern designs.
The luxury range will be made from silk, organic cotton and georgette silk chiffon in the signature Stella McCartney palette of antique pink, cream, blue and pearl grey.
McCartney, daughter of former Beatle Sir Paul McCartney, was once the chief designer for Parisian fashion house Chloe and has collaborated with Gucci, Adidas, H&M and Target.
In 2003, the designer launched her own perfume and earlier this year she released the organic skincare range CARE.
