Bruce Springsteen's new album, Devils & Dust, has left the competition in the dust. His first album in three years debuted at the top of the American charts, selling about 222,000 copies for the week, according to industry figures.
The album is also No 1 in Austria, Switzerland, Sweden, Denmark, Italy, Germany, the Netherlands, Britain, and Ireland.
Mariah Carey remained at No 2 in the US with her comeback CD, The Emancipation of Mimi. It sold 197,000 copies.
