Javier Bardem has been sued by a woman who claimed that the Spanish star of Oscar-nominated The Sea Inside broke her nose during a drunken dancing spree at a nightclub.
Bardem was in the club to celebrate the release of The Sea Inside, in which he plays a paraplegic fighting for the right to die.
Bardem denies any culpability. Through his lawyers, he said that the woman, former model Jill Marshall, persistently asked the actor to dance but was repeatedly rebuffed.
"He is an excellent dancer ... However, to the extent the woman was injured while she was dancing, it was caused by her own conduct," Bardem attorney Martin Singer said.
