I tore at the coloured paper around the small bundle. Inside was a leather strap with a buckle at one end. The leather was carved in a Maori design with diagonal lines and swirls. It was beautifully done and the leather was oiled so that it was soft and shiny. I sniffed the new leather.
"Cool!" said Tu, moving in for a closer look. "That carving's excellent."
"What is it though?" asked Vinny. "It's too small for a belt."
I pulled the two ends around to form a circle. It would barely go around one leg.
"Maybe she ran out of leather," said Tu, uncertainly.
Tammy grinned. "You've put on weight, Dav. You're gonna have to lay off the fish and chips mate!"
"Yeah right," I grinned.
