Sofia Vergara takes advantage of her curves

Sofia Vergara, who is admired for her voluptuous figure and exotic beauty, embraces the attention she gets.

"I don't feel the need to apologise for my looks - I always took advantage of them and the doors they opened for me," the Modern Family actress told Glamour magazine.

"Likewise, I never felt I had to prove my intelligence or how business-minded I am."

Vergara is aware that her looks will fade in time.

"Look, I'm 40-years-old and have been in the entertainment world for 23 years. I know there's always someone younger and prettier on the horizon, so if you don't have anything to fall back on, you're long gone," she said.

Vergara recently made headlines when she suffered a wardrobe malfunction at the Emmy Awards. Her sparkling aqua Zuhair Murad fishtail gown split above her butt 20 minutes before her hit TV show Modern Family won a gong.

"I almost had a heart attack," she quipped about the outfit hitch.

Meanwhile, her 20-year-old son Manolo finds it hilarious that she is considered one of the most beautiful women in the world.

"Six months ago there was this internet story saying I was the third most beautiful woman, behind Mila Kunis and someone else who is, like 20 years younger than me," she told Glamour.

"Then the next day, I'd just woken up - not looking my best, because I'd had a few drinks the night before - and he starts calling my boyfriend, going, 'Hey, come take a look at the third most beautiful woman in the world'!"

The star shares a close bond with her son.

"We're very close because I got divorced [from childhood sweetheart Joe Gonzalez] when he was just one, so it's been the two of us," she explained, before addressing her sex symbol status.

"Oh please, it's not like I'm cleaning the house in a teddy, you know? To him, I'm just normal. He thinks I'm crazy and annoying, like every other mum."
