Skywalker's lightsabre fetches skyhigh price

The lightsabre used by intergalactic hero Luke Skywalker in Star Wars sold for US$200,000 ($296,000) at an auction of Hollywood props.

The laser sword brandished by actor Mark Hamill in the original 1977 film was the star of a lot of 550 pieces of movie memorabilia which fetched more than US$2 million.

The fictional weapon sold for well over estimates of up to US$80,000, as did the lightsabre used by Skywalker's dark nemesis Darth Vader in 1980s The Empire Strikes Back. It fetched US$118,000 instead of the estimated US$60,000.
