"Now that's something worth hearing," she added. "Fine weather is what we want." She turned the radio off. "How about another episode from Lyndee?"
I'm the storyteller in our family, so I told them more of the one I'm inventing about some kids on a magic carpet who are hunting for treasure in Antarctica. An iceberg has just clipped off their gyroscope, so they have to go by sea, but water is beginning to seep through the magic carpet. Things are getting tense. Some pirates are after them and gaining fast. They've got automatic, self-sharpening cutlasses in their belts and direction-finders fixed onto their woolly hats . . .
"Where did the pirates get their woolly hats from?" Con's a great one for logic and questions. He has a long memory too.
"From out of that treasure chest they dug up in my last episode _ remember? The pirates found it first, but there wasn't much treasure in it."
"On the tropical island? You said they were magic beans."
"Du-uh. Wash your ears out. Magical beanies, I said."
Con frowned and pulled down his eyebrows. "Anyway, I don't think this story has much peace and tranquillity in it," he grumbled.
I was saved by Mum.
