According to the interior experts at My Domaine, the devil is in the detail, and apparently minor faux pas could be spoiling the ambiance in your house.

And while cheap photo frames or fluorescent bulbs may seem like minor concerns, often they're the first things guests notice, the experts say.

But by using a few simple design hacks from professionals, you can totally transform your home into a stylish abode that guests notice for the right reasons.

The experts shared the six things marking your place out as unsophisticated - and how to sort them out.

1. FLOURESCENT LIGHTS

According to the experts, super-bright lighting can make your furnishings appear unsophisticated. To flatter the room - and interior - switch them out in favour of softer and warmer lighting, which creates a far more inviting ambiance.

2. TV WIRES AND STANDS

Interior experts say you should always conceal wires or invest in sleek, cable-free technology to make your rooms appear extra sophisticated.

They also recommend ditching bulky TV stands to maximise space and create a minimalist feel.

3. A BARE ROOM

While sometimes less is more, a few carefully placed stylish accents can lend your room an air of sophistication.

The experts recommend adding cosy chic throws to sofas, which add an element of functionality and decoration.

4. UGLY PHOTO FRAMES

What's the point in splurging on fancy artwork only to put it in a cheap frame? The experts recommend forking out for glare-proof glass and custom matte mounts to show off your favourite prints to full effect.

5. VERTICAL BLINDS

As the site explains: "While they are functional, there are more appealing ways to block incoming light and offer privacy."

They recommend installing a large box valance over your blinds' valance, or hanging a rounded curtain rod from the ceiling. Then, they suggest, push the blinds to the side and hang drapery panels over them.

6. PAPER LAMPSHADES

Cheap lamps often come with paper shades - but that doesn't mean you can't work your own magic on it and replace it yourself with a chicer fabric option.
