Here is a look at some other high-profile cover girls who have shocked, tickled or educated others.
Demi Moore - Vanity Fair, August 1991
Moore also chose Annie Leibovitz to show off her naked body when she was seven-months pregnant with daughter Scout.
Shot in profile while Moore covered her breasts with her arm and cupped her baby-bump, it's become one of the most famous and copied images in the world.
Nicole Trunfio - Elle Australia, June 2015
The Aussie supermodel looked joyous as she breastfed her four-month old son Zion on the recent cover of Elle.
The photo, shot by Georges Antoni, came about because her son actually needed a feed and the photographer just hit upon a naturally beautiful moment.
Since it came out, though, there has been some controversy over the shoot with many claiming she used her son as an accessory. Trunfio has defended the cover and said she wants to normalise breastfeeding.
Britney Spears - Rolling Stone, March 1999
Clad in a black bra, polka dot hot pants and an open white shirt while lying on a bed, Britney Spears did a lot to shatter her squeaky-clean image with this cover shoot.
With a phone clasped to one ear and a telly tubby under the other, the cover poked fun at her position, somewhere between tween and adult.
However, the cover was seen as too provocative for a 17-year-old, as Britney was at the time.
"Inside the heart mind and bedroom of a teen dream" the tagline teased.
It was also released around the same time Britney was extolling the virtues of remaining a virgin until marriage...yeah we all know how that one turned out.
Turia Pitt - Australian Women's Weekly, June 2014
Pitt's cover came on an issue that carried a mission statement to celebrate women for the merit of their actions, rather than how they looked.
Pitt, who suffered burns to 65 per cent of her body and lost fingers on one hand when she was caught in a bushfire in Western Australia's Kimberley while running an ultra-marathon in 2011, was snapped for the cover of the Aussie mag, which had a very positive response.
Pitt, who is a mining-engineer, an author and an athlete, was seen as an inspiration.
For once, women were being celebrated for their achievements instead of how they looked. Now there's a real statement.
Kim Kardashian - Paper magazine, Winter 2014
It was an attempt to break the internet: Kardashian posed with her black dress held just below her derriere, wearing a subtle smile (and nothing else) as she peered over her shoulder.
The internet remains intact, but the photograph shot by French photographer Jean-Paul Goude certainly got a lot of people's attention.
Jane Fonda - W magazine, May 2015
The 77-year-old actress appeared in a white dress with a keyhole cut out showing cleavage and overall proving anyone can look hot, regardless of their age.
"Sex symbol, Oscar-winning actress, fitness queen, and now, at age 77, TV star. Behold the unstoppable Jane Fonda," the W magazine interview with the actress said.
