KEY POINTS:
They probably know more about wine than the law says two teenagers should. But sisters Niamh and Sorcha Peren have the best of reasons for their knowledge of the best kind of alcohol.
The sisters (their names are Gaelic and pronounced Neev and Sorsha) are the siblings behind the Two Sisters vineyard in central Otago.
A large rock on the vineyard property was split by lightning and the landmark was named the twin sisters by locals, which is why calling the vineyard after the Peren siblings, whose parents also run Peregrine winery, made sense.
"And we've grown up with the wine industry," says Niamh, who splits her time between Auckland and Otago while she's studying fine arts at Elam, "so it's almost become instinctive now."
But Niamh, 18, and Sorcha, 14, don't just drink the stuff; they also work on their parents' vineyard. "I'm a pretty speedy [grape] picker too," Niam laughs.
