What has happened to music when the guy who wins the "male fox" award also gets a lifetime achievement award?
Shayne Carter - the former Straitjacket Fits, now Dimmer, frontman - did just that at last night's 2005 bNet New Zealand Music Awards.
All we can say is what about those young chaps from the Checks and the Mint Chicks? Or that Dallas Tamaira from Fat Freddy's Drop? But hey, these awards are voted by you, so the people have spoken.
And it has to be said the lifetime achievement award is well deserved for 40-year-old Carter who reformed Straitjacket Fits for a nationwide tour in April.
The other big winners last night were TrinityRoots, who broke up earlier this year, taking out best live act plus best album and best downbeat release for Home, Land and Sea. Also winning three awards were young Auckland band the Mint Chicks for best cover art and best rock release for the Anti Tiger EP and best video for Opium of the People.
Fat Freddy's Drop - whose album Based On a True Story stayed at number one for two weeks recently - also had a good night with main man Mu picking up the best producer and most outstanding musician awards and singer Dallas Tamaira winning best vocalist.
Other highlights included Kirsten Morelle from Goldenhorse winning the female fox category, Pluto's Dance Stamina winning best song and P Money's Magic City taking the top hip-hop honours.
For all the best photos from the awards see Nightlife in TimeOut next week. Believe us, with some of the shenanigans that go on at the bNets, it'll be worth it.
