Stalker Theatre Company started life in New Zealand in 1985 with the help of a six-month grant from Auckland City Council.
In 1988, the company shifted to Australia "to grow internationally", says its creative director David Clarkson. Within a year, they were touring in Europe and Asia.
Performing at AK05 is "like a home-coming", says Clarkson. "It is great to come back after 20 years," he says.
Internationally renowned for their outdoor performances, Stalker combines extreme physical performances with enterprising visual work.
The latest show, Red, features a combination of circus skills mixed with aerial dynamics. A specially designed catapult and two musicians playing live set the scene.
"The musicians will be playing guitar and keyboards and across-the-board music. You couldn't categorise the music," says Clarkson. "I believe in live music where possible."
