DELIVERANCE
John Boorman's classic film about four city-dwellers who go on a canoeing trip in the Georgian mountains. Based on a best-selling novel by James Dickey, Deliverance was made when America was just waking up to issues surrounding conservation and the ecology.
In addition to the high adventure and deeply unsettling thriller elements of this film, larger themes are at work, like Western civilisation's interference with nature.
Burt Reynolds stars as the group leader, who has grandiose ideas about man conquering the elements. His three companions, played by Ned Beatty, Ronny Cox and Jon Voight aren't so cocky.
The men navigate their way through dangerous, white-water rapids, and encounter a group of savage hillbillies who turn their weekend away into a life-or-death struggle. (1972)
8.35PM, TV2
THE ADVENTURES OF PRISCILLA QUEEN OF THE DESERT
One of Australia's most loved comedies, about drag queens taking their show to Alice Springs on a lavender bus they call Priscilla. The contrast between their gaudy, over-the-top costumes and the barren Australian outback is unforgettable. Terence Stamp, Guy Pearce and Hugo Weaving star. (1994)
10.45PM, TV2
PATH TO WAR
