Clad in the colours of Canterbury, the Duchess of Cambridge paid tribute to the people of Christchurch yesterday in a red and black ensemble by the Italian brand Luisa Spagnoli.
The red pencil skirt and peplum-style jacket cinched at the waist with a black velvet ribbon have been seen before: Catherine wore it in 2011 on a visit to her old university, St Andrew's, one of her first public engagements. Yesterday she wore it with Annoushka pearl drop earrings, Episode pump heels and a Mulberry clutch purse.
She has dipped into her wardrobe several times on the tour, repeating a Max Mara dress, Zara blazer and Emilia Wickstead dress (albeit in a new colour). In contrast to the Kate effect - pieces quickly selling out after she wears them - she has become known for this thriftiness.
This repetition looks to be a case of her striving to be known as more than just a fashion plate - or another example of the young royal couple's attempt at down-to-earth accessibility.
