"It won't be so bad." Mum sounded hopeful. "At least you can take Cav with you. Aunt Caroline didn't want you to bring him but I insisted."
The thought of going without Cav really scared me. He would fret at the kennels, and I would go nuts without him. He seemed to know when I was feeling sad and would nudge up to me, panting hot air in my ear, until I had to push him back to stop myself from falling over. Right now he was squashed up against by feet.
"Here, boy." Cav moved up onto the bed, wagged his tail and gave me a soppy look. I tugged his ear. Go without Cav? No way!
