"It'll be so boring."
"No it won't. There's always something to do on a farm," said Mum.
"Besides, it's a great chance for you to get to know Brian."
"I know it'll be boring," I said, thinking of the last time I'd seen my cousin.
We'd nothing in common, except our age, brown hair and hazel eyes; even then, Brian's hair curled while mine flopped straight.
"I'm sorry, Josh, but it's all arranged. We leave tomorrow."
I stared hard at the muddy footprint Cav had put on the clean cover. My best friend Steve was dead, and Mum and Dad were going away.
Mum had been talking about the trip for months -- seeing London with Dad, then going round Europe on a bus while he worked. Right then I wanted to ask her to stay home but I couldn't get the words out, and the moment passed.
