Butt facials, neck lifts, $1000 skin treatments, and human stem cell serums. These are the lengths celebs are going to before red carpets.
A leading Los Angeles facialist has spoken about the steps Hollywood stars are taking to appear camera-ready from all angles, including the rise of "butt facials" (yep, a "facial" for the derrière).
The 50-minute treatment — dubbed "Get Cheeky — costs $US160 ($NZ215) at the famous Ole Henriksen spa in Los Angeles, reports news.com.au.
It involves "cleansing, exfoliation, extractions, hydration" on the cheeks, along with a "rub 'n buff body polish" and microdermibration, and is aimed at those who want to show off their assets.
"The easy and simple way to describe it would be a facial for your buttocks," Soto said.
"If you think about it, our "behind" does a lot of work."
He said some of the spa's A-list clientele — kept confidential, of course — wanted to "lift and tighten" their booties and even treat blemishes and breakouts.
Soto said some clients requested radio frequency treatments done on their behinds "to really tighten the skin".
There has also been a rise in demand for treatments targeting the "knees, elbows and hands" among the Hollywood clientele, according to Soto.
"Usually it's sun damage, wrinkles, and elasticity (damage)," he said.
FACING FACTS
With Australian TV stars set to strut the Logies' red carpet on July 1, their preparation certainly doesn't just involve a trip to a stylist.
In Hollywood, celebrities might have a $US600 ($NZ868) "red carpet facial" — the most expensive treatment at Ole Henriksen Spa.
It's usually done the day before — or sometimes, even on the day of — an event like the Golden Globes or Oscars.
The two-hour facial includes exfoliation, hydration, oxygen, LED lights (to boost collagen and kill surface bacteria), a MicroPhoto treatment (it involves "light and heat"), human stem cell serum, along with a Venus Freeze radio frequency treatment (that tightens and contours).
"Celebrities pre-red carpet have the same concerns many of us do before an event or night out," Soto said.
"Many celebrities ask what to do with their skin before hitting the red carpet and for some it comes to down to … an eye treatment … or treating break outs," Soto said.
"They're busy and can be stressed especially during award season and sometimes that equals the unwanted breakout."
And those "unwanted" breakouts may even be on their ... um, butts.
