Wellington is celebrating the Oscar success of Peter Jackson and his Lord of the Rings team today.
The public tribute has been moved from Civic Square to the Wellington Events Centre, Queen's Wharf.
Sixteen Oscar winners, including Peter Jackson and Richard Taylor, will be at the Wellington City Council-promoted celebration.
The entertainment began at 11.30am with the New Zealand Arts Festival act the Spanish Hairdressers, followed by the Beat Girls at 12 noon.
Wellington mayor Kerry Prendergast was due to welcome the Oscar winners when they arrived at 12.45pm.
The "Rings" creators will be questioned in front of the crowd by master of ceremonies, Tom Scott.
"It will be a great opportunity for Wellingtonians and visitors to the city to celebrate the Oscar triumph of Peter Jackson and his team," said Mayor Prendergast.
Co-producer Jamie Selkirk, whose Oscar was for best editing, says work on the trilogy has not finished, with visual effects still being completed for the Return of the King DVD.
He says it has been a long haul and has been great, but it will be nice to finally tuck the film away and get on with other things.
