'Rings' tour filmed

Two German pop stars are treading in the footsteps of Frodo as they tour New Zealand filming a travel feature on Lord of the Rings locations for German television.

Singers Vanessa Struhler and Gracia Bauer, who appeared on the German version of American Idol, are fronting the travel show for the RTL network, Germany's biggest TV channel.

The programme will be seen by more than three million people.

Tourism NZ chief executive George Hickton says international media teams brought to New Zealand on Rings-related features have already reached an estimated 90 million readers or viewers.
