Lord of the Rings actor John Rhys Davies is back in New Zealand to film horror flick The Ferryman.
Filming starts today in Auckland and Waiheke Island on the joint New Zealand and British-financed production.
Davies, who played the dwarf Gimli in The Lord of the Rings, will be joined by New Zealand actress Kerry Fox (An Angel at my Table, Shallow Grave), Craig Hall (The World's Fastest Indian, King Kong), Julian Arahanga (Once Were Warriors, The Matrix) and Lawrence Makoare (Lord of the Rings, Die Another Day).
The producers describe The Ferryman as "the story of a group of 20-somethings who charter a boat into the South Pacific for the trip of a lifetime, before stumbling upon an evil that demands vengeance at any cost".
Sione's Wedding director Chris Graham is to direct the movie, which was written by Stickmen author Nick Ward.
