The cash registers are still ringing for hit New Zealand movie Whale Rider in the two of the major foreign markets it is screening in.
In Australia, after eight weeks on release it has slipped out of the box office top 10 with more than A$7.3 million ($8 million). But it is still showing on more than 100 screens across the Tasman.
In the United States, where the film is steadily climbing the lower regions of the American box office top 20 and sits at number 13, the film has grossed US$4.1 million ($6.6 million) after five weeks on release.
The film was due to open in Britain yesterday. It opens in Brazil later in the month, in South Africa on July 25, in Japan early next month and in various European countries later in the year.
In New Zealand, it is still showing in a few cinemas, having opened in late January, and has grossed more than $5.5 million.
