Women don't like macho men. That's the consensus according to hundreds of women who have taken to Reddit to reveal what they're looking for in a potential male partner, and the traits of the quintessential alpha male aren't what they're after.
The thread asked women to name the "hard tofind" quality they look for in a man, and of the 800 replies, top of the list is a man who is in touch with is feminine side.
Others noted "quiet confidence", intelligence, and proving they will wait to have sex for the first time as the rare qualities they seek.
According to user Scarletwitch1986, a dominant man is a total turn off: "I see too many men trying to be alpha males. This is the quickest way to tune me out.
"I'm more interested in the men that aren't concerned with displays of dominance or posturing. I like to think I'm the female equivalent."
Similarly, user Bleachviolet shared that she'd like to meet a straight man who isn't afraid of being "a little flamboyant". And another woman said she loves a guy who's comfortable with being effeminate.
Women also expressed their preference for men who are confident, but aren't overpowered by the male ego.
Others used the opportunity to share that they wished men weren't so disgusted by women's periods.
Men also joined in the debate, with some admitting the would love the opportunity to display their softer sides, but have been too shy to do so.
"Seriously, I find it incredibly difficult to find women that allow and support me to embrace my feminine side," said the happynomad.
Another man said: "I'm a 25-year-old athletic man, but I love having her tweeze my eyebrows, give me a face mask, go shopping, etc. You gotta rock being a little more feminine!"
