Alexa rules
Everyone loves Alexa Chung at the moment it seems, from US brand Madewell, which has collaborated with the sometime-presenter on a range that will get female bloggers around the world salivating, to UK Vogue, who have featured her on their recent cover (wearing Chanel clogs!). They've also asked her to "text in" what she's wearing every day for a month, pictures of which they are showcasing on their website - much to the delight of female style bloggers.
Naturally protected
Deodorants are subject to more internet scare stories than most beauty products, giving rise to a demand for natural alternatives free of the chemicals, preservatives and synthetic ingredients, including sometimes aluminium, found in anti-perspirants.
Options are fairly limited, although health-food stores carry a small range of products including crystals you can rub on your underarms, so you don't need to worry about what your skin might absorb. If that sounds a bit hippie, check out Weleda's organic deodorants in three fragrances, drawn from essential oils. The non-aerosol citrus spray smells more like a summer spritz than a deodorant and costs $23.50. There's also wild rose and sage. They work to neutralise odour-causing bacteria without preventing perspiration. weleda.co.nz.
What a difference a day made
The Documentary Film Festival starts this weekend, with a fantastic line-up of films playing in Auckland until March 14. We're particularly excited to see What A Difference A Day Made - Doris Day Superstar, which follows the life of actress, singer and "Little Miss Average" Doris Day.
Now 85, she hasn't appeared in public for more than 30 years. Extracts from her many TV, film and stage appearances are interspersed with interviews from actors Philip Brown, Peter Graves, Jackie Joseph and Noah Keen, and her fans and childhood acquaintances. docnz.org.nz.
