One of the world's original punks is coming to New Zealand.
Hugh Cornwell, the longtime frontman of the Stranglers will play Christchurch, Wellington and Auckland late next month.
The Stranglers had many hits, including Peaches, No More Heroes and their most successful song, Golden Brown. Their careers peaked around the same time as the Sex Pistols, the Clash and the Damned, during the days of early London punk. Cornwell made his solo debut in 1979 with Nosferatu, and although it was another nine years before his second album, he has proved prolific since. His most recent releases are his 2004 album Beyond Elysian Fields and his autobiography, A Multitude of Sins.
Cornwell plays at the Transmission Room on June 24.
