Another happy marriage at this time of the year is the pairing of strawberries and rhubarb. Here are a couple of ideas:
* Try making this combination into a jam with chunky pieces of strawberry and simmered rhubarb.
* Top a shortcake or sponge with a layer of this perfect match. Cut the rhubarb into domino size pieces and sprinkle with sugar and orange juice. Bake in a medium oven 'til the rhubarb is soft. Cool and alternate with half strawberries over the top of your base or put into a dish and make a crumble topping.
You could go totally over the top by making a fresh raspberry sauce (as per the recipe on these pages) and serving this with the best vanilla icecream. It is, after all, the time to be indulgent and enjoy the bounty of summer. It comes but once a year.
