KEY POINTS:
Just when you thought you'd consumed all the beer you possibly could over New Year, along comes our first Beer Festival. Those who have been to Germany's Oktoberfest will know it's not just a quest to get drunk.
The R20 event at the Ellerslie Racecourse on February 24 offers a tempting selection of 45 the world's beers, such as Harvard Honey Ale, Shamrock Stout and New Zealand's own Taakawa. To make the most of it, line your stomach with gourmet mussels, NZ Wild Foods, Fatimas and more.
That's as glam as it gets - all the drinking will be in the converted horse stables and parade ring - as the organisers put it, "two great halls and a stunning beer garden".
Tickets are $20 from Liquorland, iticket.co.nz, or you can text BEER to 858. For four or more, email tickets@beerfestival.co.nz
