With less than two minutes' turnaround between outfits, it's a hectic world backstage at Fashion Week. AUT student Juliet Stimpson helps make life a little easier as a volunteer dresser.
How did you get involved in Fashion Week?
I'm doing a bachelor of design at AUT and we got asked if we wanted to help out. It sounded like a good opportunity. I'm a fashion student and I love fashion.
What are your first impressions of the event?
It's been pretty good. It's cool seeing all the clothes first-hand and knowing what's going to be in next year. It's not quite as rushed as I expected, there's a lot more waiting round and stuff.
How many hours' work have you had to put into it?
Tuesday it was about four hours and yesterday and today it's about the same. I think it's just two hours on Friday.
Why do you love Fashion Week?
It's like a show and you get to go out there and imagine doing it yourself down the track or helping out with a bigger role. I've really enjoyed it. It's inspired me to try harder and keep going with my course.
Standout moment?
On Tuesday I dressed for the Hailwood show and at the end of that there was a really good vibe. He seemed so proud and happy with it. It was a good show to dress for.
Any stressful moments?
Not for me, no. I've had really good models. The one next to me at one of the shows, I think she was an Australian model, she did seem like a bit of a drama queen. She wouldn't let the dresser dress her.
Favourite show?
Hailwood.
Most anticipated show?
The Zambesi one should be pretty good but I'm not actually dressing for that because they've got their own dressers for the off-site show.
Biggest challenge?
It's not actually been that challenging at all. I guess the waiting round gets a little bit boring but the cool atmosphere makes up for that.
