When Princess Diana was alerted to the murder of her close friend Gianni Versace, she feared she would suffer a similar fate, according to an inquest into the late royal's death.
Designer Gianni Versace was 50 and at the helm of the billion-dollar fashion empire when he was shot andkilled outside his Miami Beach mansion in 1997.
The Princess of Wales was with her lover, Dodi Fayed, on a yacht in the Mediterranean when she was told the devastating news.
According to The Express, the next morning, Fayed's bodyguard found Diana on the yacht's deck, staring into the horizon over the deep blue sea.
It's alleged that she asked him: "Do you think they'll do that to me?"

Princess Diana, who wore an iconic Atelier Versace gown on the cover of an issue of Harper's Bazaar, attended Versace's funeral in famous company: Elton John, Sting, Karl Lagerfeld and Anna Wintour. Footage from that day features in Netflix's series "The Assassination of Gianni Versace".
Not long after the designer's funeral, his sister Donatella, brother Santos and Wintour and Lagerfeld found themselves at Westminster Abbey for the funeral of Princess Diana.

Investigative writer John Morgan's inquest into whether Diana's death was an accident or an orchestrated assassination, alleges Diana expressed concerns surrounding her fate.
Morgan's book, Cover-up of a Royal Murder, features claims by Diana's fashion designer friend Roberto Devorik. He tells Morgan Diana feared she'd be murdered in some sort of establishment conspiracy, recalling her eerie musing: "They will do it when I am in a small plane, in a car when I am driving, or in a helicopter."
Following Versace's death, Princess Diana issued a statement, saying, "I am devastated by the loss of a great and talented man."
Diana, aged 36, and her partner Fayed were killed in a car crash in Paris just seven weeks later.
