Officer Michael Vega has revealed police were called to a room at the citizenM Miami Worldcenter hotel, in Miami’s bustling downtown area, on February 7, at 3.22 pm.
According to the death certificate, Liuzzo’s time of death was reported as 3.34 pm and the unmarried man had been living in an apartment nearby, working as an art consultant, The Mirror stated.
His funeral allegedly took place in New York, on February 16.
Liuzzo’s cause of death has not been officially reported but Vega said it was investigated as “an overdose death”.
This follows a complicated past where Liuzzo was charged with manslaughter in 2002 after a drunken group fight resulted in the death of Jonathan R. Duchatellier, 19.
Liuzzo’s sentence was reduced from manslaughter to assault. However, he contInued to have run-ins with police. In 2009, he was held by police in the Gold Coast after crashing a hired Audi into a set of traffic lights.
It was later discovered he had cocaine in his possession and was fleeing a casino without paying the bill.
According to a friend, Liuzzo was not well around the time of his death and was involved in partying, gambling and drugs.
“He began using a lot of pharmaceutical drugs at first but that later led to cocaine and harder drugs,” they told The Sun.
“It was a very fast lifestyle and we all feared it would catch up with him eventually.”
Princess Beatrice met Liuzzo during a vacation in Jamaica in 2005 and quickly fell for the New York University student. However, the pair separated years ago and the royal has not commented on news of his passing.
The princess went on to marry Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi at the Royal Chapel of All Saints, Royal Lodge, Windsor, in July, 2020.
As a member of an Italian noble family, Mozzi is considered a count and Princess Beatrice became a countess upon marrying him.
