PRINCE Louis Arthur Charles of Cambridge was welcomed into the world this week and, none are more excited to greet the royal baby than the punters raking it in after taking a chance on the unexpected name.
Bookies were backing Albert as the number one contender for the name of the third child of Prince William and the Duchess of Cambridge and according to betting agency Ladbrokes, Louis was a longshot at 20-1 odds.
Alex Apati of Ladbrokes, told OK: "Prince Louis has caught both bookies and punters by surprise. With it being one of Prince George's middle names fans didn't see it as an obvious front runner for Kate and Wills second son."
A British punter from Horsham, Sussex, saw her $A450.00 (NZD $481.93) bet on Louis (at 18-1 odds), win her an impressive $A8,200 (NZD $8781.79).
The name is believed to be inspired by the Duke of Edinburgh's favourite uncle, Lord Mountbatten, but Alice Gordon drew inspiration from a new addition to her own family.
