Church Hill Restaurant & Oyster Bar owner Chris Sara said locals were looking forward to showing the Prince a good time.
"There's genuine excitement and everyone's got a bit of gossip. He seems like a really relaxed person ... I think he's really going to enjoy his time here."
The Prince was this week spotted picking up a $5 pork roll, with chilli, at a Sydney bakery.
Mr Sara said if the royal dropped into their restaurant, he could be served up one of their most popular dishes: blue cod oven baked with brown butter sage sauce and fresh vegetables.
Prince Harry will also visit Putiki Marae, in Whanganui, where he will be formally welcomed with a powhiri and meet locals before heading out on a waka with young members of the marae. Marae committee chairman Hone Tamehana said they were expecting more than 300 people to turn out to see the Prince.
"In other words, we're going to have to make sure we have a lot of kai," he laughed.
Mr Tamehana said a number of young men tasked to accompany Prince Harry on a waka are excited.
"They're local boys from the Putiki kapa haka [group] and they're pretty excited to show the Prince how it's done."
Prince Harry this week dropped to fifth in line to the British throne following the birth of his niece, Her Royal Highness Princess Charlotte, on May 2.
He is due to leave New Zealand on May 16.
