The Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron is looking for a new sailing manager. The club, based at the end of the breakwater in Westhaven, is considered New Zealand's premier yacht club. All of New Zealand's America's Cup campaigns have been raced under its burgee, as have most of the country's successful international yacht racing campaigns.
According to general manager Craig Peploe, the club's new manager will be someone who is passionate about the sport of sailing.
"They will be responsible for proactively and enthusiastically managing the day-to-day operations of our busy sailing office," he says.
"This will include working with the various sailing committees to ensure that yacht racing programmes, notices of race, sailing instructions and event-management requirements are prepared, scheduled and delivered in a timely and professional manner."
Peploe says that the position is full time and can be demanding. "It requires a reliable, hands-on, self-motivated individual who is flexible and able to work evenings and weekends."
He says the successful applicant will have experience in yacht racing, race management and sailing operations; have the skills to provide motivational leadership; have strong administration, communication, interpersonal and organisational skills and be able to develop effective relationships with people at all levels, within and outside the yacht club.
"They will also be experienced in monitoring and controlling financial resources and operational objectives [and] have an understanding of keel, power and inflatable boat-maintenance requirements."
Applications close on September 29 and those interested should forward their CVs to him at the club.
