By BRENDAN CLARKIN
There was definitely something moving slowly across the surface of the water. Something black...shining...slipping silently through the water.
The creature carved a smooth path, moving ever closer to the shore. Drawing near the small, sandy beach, it slowed. Raising its bulky head from the water, it seemed to sniff the air, as if trying to sense danger. The creature's head, trailing streams of water and slimy seaweed, turned slowly from right to left and back again. Searching for any movement, any sound.
After long silent minutes and finally sure there was no threat, the creature's jaw dropped suddenly, splashing into the water. A wet, slippery tongue emerged from its mouth and brushed over thick lips, wetting the rubbery surface.
