KEY POINTS:
The greatest line in New Zealand cinema is by Peter Jackson, of course.
Arts show Frontseat has named its viewers' five favourite lines in Kiwi film, with Jackson's character Derek from his early splatter-fest Bad Taste winning with "I'm a Derek, and Dereks don't run".
Better known lines such as "Cook the man some f***ing eggs!" from Once Were Warriors, and Goodbye Pork Pie's classic "We're taking this bloody car to Invercargill, boy" were finalists but lost out to Jackson, whose script from Heavenly Creatures also featured in the lineup.
"Something about the Derek line has really captured the public vote," Frontseat producer Oliver Driver said.
Hundreds of viewers voted on the six finalists, which were chosen by a jury from 50 nominations.
