Peter Jackson named Kiwis' favourite drinking buddy

Kiwis would most like to share a wine with Sir Peter Jackson, according to a new survey that ranks 20 famous New Zealanders on their drinking likeability.

In a survey similar to the age-old question "who would you most like to have dinner with" Babich Wines asked 500 respondents to pick their most, and least, favourite New Zealander to share a tipple with.

The choice of well-known New Zealanders included Sir Peter Blake, Katherine Mansfield and Jean Batten.

It showed Billy T. James and Kate Sheppard's legacies are strong, with the beloved comedian and passionate suffragette making the top-five most favoured list.

You may have noticed Prime Minister John Key and former Prime Minister Helen Clark feature on both the most and least popular lists. The results found Key at the top of the least favoured list, and also tied for fifth alongside model Rachel Hunter on the most favoured list.

Soprano Dame Kiri Te Kanawa and pop-star Lorde both ended up on the least popular list, as third and fourth least favoured, between the prime ministers and author Barry Crump.

Sporting stars, including Steven Adams, Bruce McLaren, Colin Meads and Valerie Adams did not make either of the final lists.

Historical figures including Sir Edmund Hillary, Katherine Mansfield, Jean Batten, and Burt Munro also did not place.
