LONDON - Babyshambles lead singer Pete Doherty has been arrested on suspicion of possessing illegal drugs, just days after pleading guilty in court to possessing heroin and cocaine, police said.
The 26-year-old, best known for an on-off relationship with supermodel Kate Moss, was stopped by police early on Saturday and arrested for alleged possession of class A and class C drugs.
He was also suspected of driving under the influence of illicit drugs, and has been bailed to appear at a north London police station on February 2 "pending analysis of substances" found, a police spokeswoman added.
Last Wednesday, the troubled rocker pleaded guilty to possessing heroin and cocaine, and is due to reappear in court on February 8.
Doherty, who shot to fame as lead singer of The Libertines, has been in the headlines since Moss was filmed last year apparently snorting cocaine, prompting several fashion labels to sever ties with the supermodel, who turned 32 on Monday.
Police have urged Moss to return from the United States to answer questions related to the cocaine scandal, and expect to make arrests soon of other suspects in the case.
Media reports say Doherty and Moss have split up.
