LONDON - Pete Doherty has been charged with seven counts involving possession of heroin, cocaine and cannabis, police said.
They said the charges related to offences that took place between April and early August, most of them previously reported but for which charges were delayed until chemical analysis had been completed.
Doherty, who is lead singer with the rock band Babyshambles and has a history of drug addiction and an on-off relationship with supermodel Kate Moss, is in custody and is due to appear at Thames magistrates court in east London on Friday.
The 27-year-old is charged with three counts of possessing cocaine, two of possessing heroin and two of cannabis.
Moss lost some of her most lucrative modelling contracts late last year after a tabloid newspaper printed pictures of her allegedly snorting cocaine in a London studio where Doherty and his band were recording.
She went into rehabilitation in the United States and was said to have ended her relationship with the incident-prone Doherty, though they have since frequently been photographed together.
Moss, a favourite subject of the tabloid press, later returned to Britain and questioning by police but was never charged with any offence, and her career has blossomed once more.
