Heather Mills McCartney has attacked the fiery supermodel Naomi Campbell for wearing fur, describing her as "superficial, shallow and hypocritical".
The wife of the former Beatle Sir Paul McCartney condemned Ms Campbell, who in the past has campaigned against fur, for now wearing it.
She said Ms Campbell had reneged on her public opposition, referring to when she took part in the "I'd rather go naked than wear fur" campaign for the pressure group People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (Peta).
In 1994, Ms Campbell joined supermodels including Cindy Crawford and Linda Evangelista in a poster campaign in which they were photographed naked, covered only by placards carrying the Peta slogan.
In an interview with Jonathan Dimbleby broadcast yesterday, Mills McCartney said: "It would be a bit like me saying no more landmines, no more landmines, and then doing a contract with a landmine company to promote a new landmine.
That's how superficial, shallow and hypocritical it is, as well as harming millions of animals." The former model, 37, who wants a ban on trade in cat and dog fur from Asia to Europe, added: "I haven't met her.
She won't meet up with me."A spokesman for Naomi Campbell said: "Ms Campbell has not been contacted by Heather Mills McCartney, is surprised by her remarks and declines to comment further."Mills McCartney also revealed that animal rights activists asked her to storm the catwalk during New York Fashion Week, but she refused.
"The reason I managed to get a lot of things done, many things that people don't know about over the years, is because I do it diplomatically," she said.
Last month, Mills McCartney, who lost a leg when she was hit by a police motorcyclist in 1993, had her prosthetic limb knocked off in a tussle at an anti-fur protest against Jennifer Lopez outside the New York offices of the actress's clothing company, Sweetface.
This month, she accused Crawford, Evangelista and Campbell of "selling their souls" to the fur trade in a posting on her website.
